Until now, Alexander School has not had a dedicated Library, with the Gemjian Hall and our classrooms serving this purpose for many years. As education has evolved, so too has the need for purpose-designed spaces that support research, collaboration, creativity, and individual learning. This new facility can now meet that need and provide our students with an environment designed for contemporary learning.

Over the years, with a steady growth in our enrolments, there has also been a need to separate composite classrooms and expand our learning spaces. The two new classrooms on either side of the library now support Armenian Language and STEM programs, strengthening both our cultural and academic offerings.

The project represented the most significant investment in our school since its establishment in 1990. The total cost of the project, delivered across two stages, exceeded $2,615,000, with a Federal Government contribution of $1,150,000 towards the overall development. How did the school cover the remaining $1.5m? The answer is over many years of careful budgeting, saving and fundraising.

For many of us, this is an exciting new chapter and a dream that has become a reality - one defined by growth, innovation, and a continued commitment to excellence. Most importantly, it provides our students with a learning environment that supports their development not only academically, but also socially, creatively, and personally.

Today, a school library is far more than shelves of books. It is the heart of a school community - a place where curiosity begins, ideas are explored, and confidence is built. Modern libraries are spaces where students learn how to think critically, research responsibly, collaborate respectfully, and engage with the world around them.

This Library & Multipurpose Centre has been designed to be exactly that kind of place.

It will be a space where our youngest students discover the joy of reading for the very first time. Where older students work together on projects, presentations, and investigations. Where creativity and imagination are encouraged, and where learning extends far beyond the classroom walls.

At the same time, this building allows us to look confidently toward the future of education through our expanding STEM program.

Our new STEM room will provide students with opportunities that previous generations could only imagine. Here, our students will learn coding, robotics, engineering design, and digital technologies in a hands-on and engaging environment. They will work with robots, explore programming concepts, and bring their ideas to life using our new 3D printer… helping to transform imagination into creation!

These are not simply exciting technologies, but tools that will prepare our students for the future workforce and the rapidly changing world they will inherit.

What makes this especially meaningful is that while we embrace innovation and modern learning, we do so without losing sight of who we are. Within these walls, our students will continue to strengthen their Armenian language, heritage, faith, and identity while also gaining the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the future.

In many ways, this building feels like the missing puzzle piece of our school. As though this new centre has finally joined one side of the school to the other, physically and symbolically bringing our community together.

It is more than just a building. It is a bridge between tradition and innovation - between the foundations laid by those before us and the opportunities that await the next generation.

It stands as a visible reminder that we believe in our students, we believe in their potential, and we are committed to giving them every opportunity to succeed.

Years from now, students may not remember every lesson they learnt here, but they will remember how this place made them feel - inspired, supported, challenged, and valued. They will remember the books they discovered, the ideas they created, the friendships they built, and the confidence they gained within these walls.

And that is the true purpose of a school such as ours: not simply to educate children, but to shape future generations who are knowledgeable, compassionate, creative, and proud of who they are.

Today, we celebrate not only the opening of a building, but the beginning of countless new possibilities for the students of AGBU Alexander Primary School!

Opening Ceremony | Library & Multipurpose Centre 📚

AGBU Alexander Primary School community proudly celebrated the official opening of its new Library & Multipurpose Centre on Wednesday, 20 May 2026, with a special ceremony at 1.00pm attended by clergy, benefactors, dignitaries, parents, staff, students, and members of the Armenian community.

Among the guests were local members of parliament: Dr Sophie Scamps MP, Federal Member for Mackellar, and Jacqui Scruby MP, State Member for Pittwater.

The event commenced with an Acknowledgement of Country delivered by School Captain Sarkis Demirjian. Guests were then welcomed by MC and School Board Secretary Serop Aslanian, who reflected on the school’s history, community spirit, and the significance of the occasion.

Mr Aslanian, a graduate of Alexander School, acknowledged the role of the Armenian General Benevolent Union in supporting Armenian education and highlighted the longstanding dedication of parents, volunteers, and community members who have contributed to the school’s development over the past 36 years.

Principal Manoug Demirjian delivered the keynote address, outlining the educational vision behind the project and the evolving needs of contemporary learning environments. He described the centre as “the missing puzzle piece” of the school, symbolically and physically connecting the campus while supporting the future growth of the school community.

Mr Demirjian spoke about the changing role of libraries in education, explaining that modern school libraries are collaborative learning hubs where students develop critical thinking, research, creativity, and communication skills.

He also introduced the school’s expanding STEM program, which will provide students with hands-on experiences in coding, robotics, engineering design, and 3D printing technology. He noted that the new spaces would prepare students for future pathways while continuing to strengthen the Armenian language, heritage, and identity. He described the new centre as “a bridge between tradition and innovation,” highlighting the role the facility will play in strengthening both academic and cultural education.

The project was completed in two stages between late 2024 and October 2025 at a total cost exceeding $2.615 million. The Australian Government contributed $1.15 million through the Capital Grants Program, while the remaining funds were sourced through school savings, fundraising, and long-term financial planning.

Following the Principal’s address, His Grace Bishop Vardan Navasardyan, Primate of the Armenian Church of Australia and New Zealand, led the dedication and blessing of the new centre. He was joined by Very Reverend Monsignor Basil Sousanian, Patriarchal Vicar of the Armenian Catholic Church and Reverend Hagop Sarkissian of the Armenian Evangelical Church, together with Archpriest Father Norayr Patanian, Father Avetis Hambardzumyan and Father Ashot Abrahamyan from the Armenian Apostolic Church.

After the blessing of the new centre, His Grace Bishop Vardan Navasardyan addressed the gathering and congratulated the school community on the project's completion. He described the new Library & Multipurpose Centre as a visible sign of the school’s continued growth, vision, and commitment to educational excellence. His Grace praised the efforts of the School Board, Principal, staff, parents, benefactors, and supporters whose dedication made the project possible. Reflecting on the importance of education, he noted that a library is far more than a building filled with books; it is a place where curiosity is nurtured, knowledge is discovered, and the future is shaped. He also expressed gratitude for the support provided to education in Australia and concluded by praying for God’s continued blessings upon the school, that it may prepare future generations with wisdom, integrity, and a strong sense of purpose for the benefit of both the Armenian community and Australian society.

A congratulatory message from Federal Minister for Education Jason Clare MP was read during the ceremony, recognising the significance of the project and congratulating the school community on the successful completion of the development.

The official unveiling of the commemorative plaque then took place, led by School Board Chairperson Sossie Giragosian and Principal Manoug Demirjian, joined by clergy representatives. The plaque commemorated the official opening of the Library & Multipurpose Centre and acknowledged the joint funding contribution of the Australian Government and the school community.

Mrs Giragosian later delivered the School Board Address, reflecting on the vision, faith, perseverance, and collective effort that brought the project to completion. She described the new Library & Multipurpose Centre as the fulfilment of a long-held vision and an “answer to prayer,” acknowledging the dedication of past and present community members, benefactors, and volunteers who contributed to the school’s growth over the past 35 years. She emphasised that the building represented far more than bricks and mortar, but rather the community’s shared commitment to providing students with inspiring learning opportunities grounded in faith, education, and Armenian heritage. Mrs Giragosian concluded by thanking all supporters and praising the Lord for His guidance and blessings throughout the journey.

A special moment of the afternoon followed with the unveiling of an appreciation plaque dedicated to Vahe Boyadjian, recognising his dedication, volunteer service, and contribution toward the successful delivery of the project in collaboration with the Principal.

The ceremony concluded with the Australian and Armenian National Anthems, after which guests were invited to tour the new facility and attend a light luncheon.

The opening of the Library & Multipurpose Centre marks a major milestone in the history of AGBU Alexander Primary School and reflects the school’s continuing commitment to educational excellence, innovation, community, and Armenian heritage.

ՀԲԸՄ Ալեքսանտր Վարժարանը հպարտութեամբ նշեց իր նոր Գրադարանի եւ Բազմանպատակ Կեդրոնի պաշտօնական բացումը, Չորեքշաբթի, 20 Մայիս 2026-ին, յատուկ հանդիսութեամբ մը, որուն մասնակցեցան հոգեւոր հայրեր, բարերարներ, պետական այրեր, ծնողներ, ուսուցիչներ, աշակերտներ եւ հայ համայնքի անդամներ։

Հանդիսութեան ներկայ էին նաեւ Աւստրալիոյ Խորհրդարանի անդամ Տքթ. Սոֆի Սքամփս (Մաքելար շրջանի պատգամաւոր) եւ NSW Նահանգային Խորհրդարանէն Ճեքի Սքրիւպի (Փիթուոթըրի պատգամաւոր)։

Հանդիսութիւնը սկսաւ դպրոցի աւագ աշակերտ Սարգիս Տէմիրճեանի կողմէ ներկայացուած Բնիկ Ժողովուրդներու Յարգանքի խօսքով, որմէ ետք հիւրերը ողջունեց հանդիսավար եւ Դպրոցի Խնամակալութեան քարտուղար՝ Սերոբ Ասլանեան։ Իր խօսքին մէջ ան անդրադարձաւ դպրոցի պատմութեան, համայնքային ոգիին եւ այս նշանակալից օրուան կարեւորութեան։

Պրն. Ասլանեան, որ նոյնպէս դպրոցի շրջանաւարտ մըն է, գնահատեց Հայկական Բարեգործական Ընդհանուր Միութեան շարունակական աջակցութիւնը հայկական կրթութեան, ինչպէս նաեւ շնորհակալութիւն յայտնեց այն ծնողներուն, կամաւորներուն եւ համայնքի անդամներուն, որոնք վերջին 36 տարիներուն իրենց ներդրումը բերած են դպրոցի զարգացման։

Դպրոցի տնօրէն՝ Մանուկ Տէմիրճեան իր հիմնական պատգամին մէջ ներկայացուց նախագիծի կրթական տեսլականը եւ արդի կրթական միջավայրերու պահանջները։ Ան նոր կեդրոնը բնորոշեց որպէս դպրոցի «պակսող խճանկարի կտորը», որ խորհրդանշական եւ գործնական կերպով կը միացնէ ամբողջ կրթահամալիրը եւ կը ծառայէ ապագայ աճին։

Տնօրէնը շեշտեց, որ արդի դպրոցական գրադարանները այլեւս միայն գիրքերու պահեստարաններ չեն, այլ համագործակցային ուսուցման կեդրոններ, ուր աշակերտները կը զարգացնեն քննադատական մտածողութիւն, հետազօտական կարողութիւններ, ստեղծագործականութիւն եւ հաղորդակցական հմտութիւններ։

Ան նաեւ ներկայացուց դպրոցի ընդարձակուող STEM ծրագիրը, որ աշակերտներուն պիտի ընձեռէ գործնական փորձառութիւններ ծրագրաւորման, ռոպոթաշինութեան, ճարտարագիտական նախագծման եւ եռաչափ տպագրութեան բնագաւառներուն մէջ։ Ըստ անոր, նոր կառոյցը կամուրջ մըն է աւանդութեան եւ նորարարութեան միջեւ՝ միաժամանակ ամրապնդելով հայկական լեզուն, մշակոյթը եւ ինքնութիւնը։

Նախագիծը իրականացուած է երկու փուլերով՝ 2024-ի վերջէն մինչեւ Հոկտեմբեր 2025, ընդհանուր առմամբ գերազանցելով 2.615 միլիոն տոլարի արժէքը։ Աւստրալիոյ Կառավարութիւնը 1.15 միլիոն տոլարի աջակցութիւն տրամադրած է, մինչ մնացեալ գումարը ապահովուած է դպրոցի խնայողութիւններով, դրամահաւաքներով եւ երկարաժամկէտ ֆինանսական ծրագրաւորմամբ։

Յակոբ Սարգիսեան, ինչպէս նաեւ Հայ Առաքելական Եկեղեցւոյ հոգեւոր հայրեր՝ Արժ. Տ. Նորայր Աւ. Քհնյ. Բաթանեան, Արժ. Տ. Աւետիս Քհնյ. Համբարձումյան եւ Արժ. Տ. Աշոտ Քհնյ. Աբրահամյան։

Օրհնութենէն ետք, Գերշ. Սրբազանը շնորհաւորեց դպրոցը եւ համայնքը՝ ընդգծելով, որ նոր Գրադարանը եւ Բազմանպատակ Կեդրոնը դպրոցի զարգացման, տեսլականի եւ կրթական գերազանցութեան յանձնառութեան կենդանի վկայութիւնն է։ Ան գովեց Դպրոցի Խորհուրդի, տնօրէնութեան, անձնակազմին, ծնողներուն, բարերարներուն եւ աջակիցներուն նուիրումը, որ հնարաւոր դարձուց այս ծրագիրը։

Հանդիսութեան ընթացքին ընթերցուեցաւ նաեւ Աւստրալիոյ Կառավարութեան Կրթութեան Նախարար Ճէյսըն Քլէյրի շնորհաւորական պատգամը, որով ան բարձր գնահատեց ծրագիրի կարեւորութիւնը եւ շնորհաւորեց դպրոցական համայնքը յաջող իրագործման համար։

Այնուհետեւ տեղի ունեցաւ յուշատախտակի պաշտօնական բացումը, որ իրականացուցին Դպրոցի Խնամակալութեան ատենապետուհի՝ Սօսի Կիրակոսեան եւ տնօրէն Մանուկ Տէմիրճեան, հոգեւորականներու մասնակցութեամբ։ Յուշատախտակը կը նշէր Գրադարանի եւ Բազմանպատակ Կեդրոնի պաշտօնական բացումը եւ կը գնահատէր Աւստրալիոյ Կառավարութեան ու դպրոցական համայնքի համատեղ ներդրումը։

Իր խօսքին մէջ Տիկ. Կիրակոսեան անդրադարձաւ այն տեսլականին, հաւատքին, համբերատար աշխատանքին եւ հաւաքական ջանքին, որոնք իրականութիւն դարձուցին այս նախագիծը։ Ան նոր կառոյցը բնորոշեց որպէս երկար տարիներու երազանքի իրականացում եւ «աղօթքի պատասխան»՝ շնորհակալութիւն յայտնելով անցեալի եւ ներկայի բոլոր նուիրեալներուն, բարերարներուն եւ կամաւորներուն։

Օրուան յատուկ պահերէն մէկը եղաւ շնորհակալական յուշատախտակի բացումը՝ նուիրուած Վահէ Պօյաճեանին, ի գնահատանք անոր նուիրեալ կամաւոր ծառայութեան եւ ներդրումին՝ նախագիծի յաջող աւարտին մէջ։

Հանդիսութիւնը աւարտեցաւ Աւստրալիոյ եւ Հայաստանի ազգային օրհներգներով, որմէ ետք հիւրերը շրջեցան նոր կառոյցին մէջ եւ մասնակցեցան թեթեւ հիւրասիրութեան։

Վարդավառը հայկական հնագոյն տօներէն մէկն է, որ իր արմատները ունի նախաքրիստոնէական ժամանակաշրջանին մէջ, իսկ Հայաստանի քրիստոնէութիւնը ընդունելէն ետք ան կապուեցաւ Քրիստոսի Պայծառակերպութեան տօնին։ Այս գեղեցիկ աւանդութիւնը կը շարունակէ միաւորել մեր ժողովուրդը՝ պահպանելով մեր հաւատքն ու ազգային ժառանգութիւնը։

Although Sydney's winter weather was certainly chilly, our students enthusiastically embraced the tradition on the last day of term with a series of exciting water games between our House teams. The day was filled with laughter, teamwork, and plenty of splashes as students enjoyed this much-loved Armenian celebration. ❄️💧

Vartavar is one of Armenia's oldest festivals. While its origins date back to Armenia's pre-Christian (pagan) traditions, it became associated with the Feast of the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ after Armenia's adoption of Christianity. Today, it remains a joyful celebration that beautifully reflects both our rich cultural heritage and enduring Christian faith.

A wonderful celebration of faith, history, culture, and community proudly preserving our Armenian heritage for future generations.

As part of our preparations for the final day of term, our students rolled up their sleeves and helped make one of Armenia's most beloved traditional dishes – Eech!

Working together, the students carefully prepared the fresh ingredients, mixed the flavours, and learned about the cultural significance of this delicious Armenian recipe. The activity provided a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our rich heritage while developing practical life skills, teamwork, and an appreciation for traditions passed down through generations.

We are proud to see our students embracing their Armenian culture with such enthusiasm and look forward to sharing our celebration of Vartavar as a school community.

Our Frosty Fun Disco, Misco & Magic Show was a spectacular evening filled with excitement, laughter, and unforgettable memories! Organised with tremendous enthusiasm and dedication by our wonderful Parents & Friends (P&F) Committee, the event was a fantastic success, bringing our students and families together for a magical winter celebration.

The school hall was transformed into a winter wonderland where students danced the night away, enjoyed the lively entertainment, and were captivated by an amazing Magic Show that had everyone amazed and smiling from beginning to end. From the music and dancing to the magical surprises, the evening was filled with fun, friendship, and plenty of frosty cheer.

A sincere thank you to our incredible P&F Committee, whose tireless efforts, creativity, and commitment made this special event possible. Your generosity of time and energy continues to enrich our school community and create lasting memories for our students. We also extend our appreciation to our wonderful students, whose enthusiasm and joyful spirit made the evening such a memorable occasion.

Sport | Jump Off Day! 💛

What a fantastic way to finish our final sports session for the term! Our students took part in an exciting 'Jump Off Day', filling the playground with energy, enthusiasm and plenty of smiles as they put their skipping skills to the test.

From beginners mastering their first jumps to confident skippers showing off impressive tricks and endurance, every student embraced the challenge with determination and great sportsmanship. The day was a wonderful reminder that staying active can be both fun and rewarding.

A big congratulations to all our students for their effort, encouragement of one another and positive attitude throughout the event. It was a fantastic celebration of fitness, coordination and teamwork, and the perfect way to conclude another successful term of sport.

STEM | Exploring Electricity 💡

Stage 3 students have been exploring the exciting world of electricity as part of their Science program in the new STEM Room. Through a range of engaging, hands-on investigations, students have developed their understanding of electrical circuits, components and basic electronics in a stimulating and interactive learning environment.

By designing and constructing their own circuits, students gained a practical understanding of how electricity flows and how different components work together. They successfully created circuits to light bulbs, power fans and motors, and even produce sounds and music. These authentic learning experiences encouraged curiosity, problem-solving, critical thinking and creativity while bringing scientific concepts to life.

World Cup | Green & Gold Day - Go Socceroos! ⚽

💚💛 What a fantastic day of school spirit at AGBU Alexander Primary School as our students and staff proudly came together to celebrate Green & Gold Day in support of the Australian Socceroos competing at the FIFA World Cup 2026!

The school was transformed into a sea of green and gold, with students proudly wearing Australian colours, Socceroos jerseys, scarves and flags. During the day, students enjoyed a range of themed activities, including soccer-inspired games and team challenges.

Adding to the festive atmosphere were delicious green and gold treats, refreshing jelly cups and sausage sizzle to support the Year 5 & 6 Canberra Fundraiser. There were plenty of opportunities for students to celebrate together. Smiles, laughter and school spirit were on full display as students shared in the excitement of one of the world's greatest sporting events.

Excursion | The Australian Pioneer Village 🐑

Our Stage 1 students recently stepped back in time during their exciting excursion to the Australian Pioneer Village! 🏡

Throughout the day, students explored life as it was in the early days of Australian settlement, discovering historic buildings, traditional classrooms, pioneer homes, and old-fashioned shops. They enjoyed hands-on experiences, learned about the daily lives of early settlers, and gained a deeper appreciation for Australia's rich history and heritage.

The excursion provided a wonderful opportunity to bring classroom learning to life, with students enthusiastically engaging in activities, asking thoughtful questions, and immersing themselves in the stories of the past.

Excursion | Quarantine Station 😷

Years 3 & 4 enjoyed a sunny excursion to the Quarantine Station in Manly, where they became historical researchers, exploring artefacts from the early 1900s and discovering what life was like for passengers arriving in Australia.

Highlights of the day included:

* Dressing up in clothing similar to what passengers would have worn on board ships 🚢

* Stepping into the lives of patients during the Spanish Flu pandemic 🦠

* Enjoying lunch on the beach while building sandcastles in the sunshine 🏖️

Religion & Culture | Feast of the Holy Ascension ✝️

ՀԱՄԲԱՐՁՄԱՆ ՏՕՆ

The Feast of the Holy Ascension commemorates the ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ into heaven on the 40th day following His glorious Resurrection. As described in the Acts of the Apostles, Christ appeared to His disciples for forty days after His Resurrection, speaking to them about the Kingdom of God before ascending into heaven. Celebrated each year on the 40th day after Easter, the feast always falls on a Thursday.

To mark this special occasion, students participated in a meaningful assembly where they learned about the Armenian traditions associated with Hambardzum. They discovered the custom of reading fortunes by drawing a “Vijag” from a pot filled with water and flowers, sang traditional songs, and enjoyed celebrating together outdoors through Armenian dance and “Shourchbar.”

Համբարձման Տօնը կը յիշատակէ մեր Տէր Յիսուս Քրիստոսի երկինք համբառնալը՝ Իր փառաւոր Յարութենէն քառասուն օր ետք։ Ինչպէս կը կարդանք Գործք Առաքելոցին մէջ, Քրիստոս Իր Յարութենէն ետք քառասուն օր երեւցաւ Իր աշակերտներուն՝ խօսելով Աստուծոյ Արքայութեան մասին, ապա համբարձաւ երկինք։ Տօնը ամէն տարի կը նշուի Զատիկէն քառասուն օր ետք եւ միշտ կը հանդիպի Հինգշաբթի օրուան։

Օրը նշելու համար, աշակերտները մասնակցեցան յատուկ հաւաքի մը, ուր սորվեցան Համբարձման հայկական աւանդութիւններուն մասին։ Անոնք ծանօթացան վիճակ հանելու սովորութեան՝ ջուրով եւ ծաղիկներով լեցուն կուժէն «վիճակ» քաշելով, երգեցին աւանդական երգեր եւ ապա բակին մէջ միասին պարեցին հայկական պարեր ու շուրջպար։

What a beautiful afternoon we shared at our “Mum & Me Afternoon”! 🌸💖

Families were warmly welcomed with delicious food and drinks as mothers, grandmothers, and special mother figures gathered with our students for an afternoon filled with joy, creativity, and connection.

From designing colourful tote bags and creating beautiful bead bracelets, to relaxing with a good book or building imaginative creations with LEGO, there was something special for everyone to enjoy. The smiles, laughter, and conversations throughout the afternoon truly reflected the warmth of our school community.

To end the celebration, families joined together in a lively and joyful “Shourchbar,” bringing everyone onto the dance floor and finishing the day with wonderful energy and togetherness.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make this event such a memorable success. We are so grateful for the love, support, and community spirit shared throughout the afternoon. 🌷✨

The Mother’s Day Dinner organised by the P&F Committee brought together families and friends for a night filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable moments. From the warm atmosphere to the delicious cuisine and live music, it was a true celebration of the incredible mothers and mother figures who inspire us every day.

Community | Armenian "Khachkar" (Cross Stone) ✝️

AGBU Alexander Primary School was honoured to be invited to the Unveiling and Blessing of an Armenian "Khachkar" (Cross Stone) at the Rev. Bill Crews Foundation, erected on the grounds of the Uniting Church, Ashfield.

His Grace Bishop Vardan Navasardyan presided over the blessing of the Khachkar donated by the Chairman of the Diocesan Council, Mr & Mrs Sarkis and Alice Der Bedrossian, in memory of the 1.5 million victims of the Armenian Genocide of 1915.

Representing our school community at this meaningful occasion was School Captain, Sarkis Demirjian. The event was attended by clergy from different churches and members of the wider community, who celebrated faith, heritage, and the enduring presence of Armenian culture in Australia.

Community | Honouring 120 Years of AGBU 📜

As part of the 120th Anniversary of AGBU, a memorial service was held at the Armenian Apostolic Holy Resurrection Church in Sydney to honour AGBU's founders, benefactors, past leaders, and all those who have faithfully served the Union.

Following the service, guests gathered in the Edgarian Hall, where speeches reflected on AGBU's enduring legacy of service to the Armenian people. Representing AGBU Alexander Primary School, School Captain Sarkis Demirjian delivered a heartfelt address, paying tribute to the school's founders and recognising their vision and lasting contribution to Armenian education in Australia.

Սիրելի ներկաներ,

Այսօր մեծ պատիւ կ’զգամ, որպէս ՀԲԸՄ Ալեքսանտր Վարժարանի Պետ Աշակերտ, խօսիլ եւ շնորհակալութիւն յայտնել Հայկական Բարեգործական Ընդհանուր Միութեան հիմնադիրներուն, բարերարներուն ու անդամներուն։

Այսօր նաեւ եկեղեցւոյ մէջ մասնակցեցանք հոգեհանգստեան արարողութեան՝ անոնց յիշատակին, ինչպէս նաեւ ՀԲԸՄ-ի 120-ամեակի առիթով։ Աղօթեցինք բոլոր անոնց համար, որոնք իրենց կեանքը նուիրեցին մեր ժողովուրդին եւ այսօր այլեւս մեզի հետ չեն, բայց իրենց գործը կը շարունակէ ապրիլ մեր մէջ։

Անոնք, իրենց տեսլականով եւ նուիրումով, ստեղծեցին կազմակերպութիւն մը, որ դար մը շարունակ կ՛աջակցի հայ ժողովուրդին՝ կրթութեան, մշակոյթի եւ մարդասիրութեան միջոցով։ Մենք՝ այսօրուան աշակերտներս, այդ մեծ ժառանգութեան պտուղներն ենք։

Մենք նաեւ երախտագիտութեամբ կը յիշենք բոլոր անոնք, որոնք աւելի քան 35 տարիներ առաջ հիմնեցին մեր դպրոցը՝ հաւատալով, որ հայ մանուկները պէտք է սորվին իրենց լեզուն, պատմութիւնը եւ մշակոյթը։ Անոնց տեսլականը այսօր ալ կը վառի մեր սրտերուն մէջ եւ կը շարունակէ առաջնորդել մեզ։

Առանձնապէս կ՛ուզեմ շնորհակալութիւն յայտնել Ալեքս եւ Մարի Մանուկեաններուն, ինչպէս նաեւ Տոքթ. Ալեքս եւ Իզապել Ալեքսանտրներուն, որոնց առատաձեռնութիւնը եւ հաւատքը կրթութեան նկատմամբ մեզի պարգեւեցին մեր դպրոցը՝ Ալեքսանտր Վարժարանը։

Իրենց շնորհիւ մենք ունինք ապահով վայր մը՝ սորվելու, աճելու եւ մեր հայ ինքնութիւնը պահպանելու համար։

Մենք կը խոստանանք արժանի ըլլալ իրենց գործին՝ սորվելով, յարգելով եւ սիրելով մեր լեզուն, մեր պատմութիւնը եւ մեր ժողովուրդը։

Community | Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day🕯️

AGBU Alexander Primary School student representatives joined the Divine Liturgy at the Armenian Apostolic Church of Holy Resurrection on 24th April, the 111th Anniversary Commemoration of the Armenian Genocide. After receiving communion, they joined the community procession to the Armenian Genocide Memorial - "Khachkar", at Beauchamp Park, where they participated in the wreath-laying ceremony.

School Captain Sarkis Demirjian delivered a speech on behalf of the school.

ՀԲԸՄ Ալեքսանտր Վարժարանի խումբ մը աշակերտներ այս առաւօտ մասնակցեցան Հայ Առաքելական Սուրբ Յարութիւն Եկեղեցւոյ՝ Հայոց Ցեղասպանութեան 111-Ամեայ նուիրուած պատարագին։ Սուրբ Հաղորդութիւն ստանալէ ետք, աշակերտները միացան համայնքի երթին դէպի Հայոց Ցեղասպանութեան Յուշարձանը՝ «Խաչքարը», ուր մասնակցեցան ծաղկեպսակներու զետեղման արարողութեան։

Պետ աշակերտ՝ Սարգիս Տէմիրճեան խօսք առնելով ըսաւ. «Հայ ժողովուրդը երբեք չի մոռնար անցեալը եւ անոր համար մենք սփիւռքի հեռաւոր այս ափերուն վրայ կը ջանանք ապրիլ խաղաղ եւ ապրեցնել մեր Լեզուն, ու Մշակոյթը, ցոյց տալու բոլորին, թէ Հայ ժողովուրդը կա՛յ, պիտի մնա՛յ եւ ապրի՛ յաւիտեան։

Ուրեմն, ապրինք անցեալով, տեսնելու համար ներկան ու հաստատ քայլերով առաջնորդուելու դէպի լուսաշող ու պայծառ ապագան»:

Community | ANZAC Day - Terrey Hills War Memorial 🎖️

AGBU Alexander Primary School representatives joined the ANZAC Day Service organised by the Terrey Hills Progress and Duffys Forest Residents Association. They laid a wreath at the Terrey Hills War Memorial, Frank Beckman Reserve. School Captain Sarkis Demirjian participated in the commemoration by delivering a speech on behalf of the school.

The text of his speech is published below:

“Distinguished guests, community members and residents of Terrey Hills and Duffys Forest,

Today, on ANZAC Day, we gather to remember the courage, sacrifice, and spirit of the Australian and New Zealand soldiers who served our nation.

My name is Sarkis Demirjian, and I am the Captain of the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) Alexander Primary School in Duffys Forest.

Yesterday, my family was reading the newspaper with a powerful front-page story titled “Forgotten Genocide.” The cover photo showed Australian soldiers - ANZACs - standing beside children who had survived terrible hardship during World War I. It reminded me that ANZACs were not only soldiers, but also among the first to witness and help Christian minorities suffering within the Ottoman Empire during the Armenian Genocide.

Yesterday, on 24 April, my friends and I joined members of our school community to commemorate this significant historical event. During World War I, the Armenian people faced unimaginable tragedy. It is estimated that over 1.5 million Armenians, along with Assyrians and Greek Christian minorities, were brutally killed because of their ethnicity and religion. Families were torn apart, communities were destroyed, and a rich culture was nearly erased.

This history is also personal to me. My great-grandfather was an orphan. He was one of many children who survived because of the compassion and support of others. After the war, ANZAC soldiers and the Australian community helped lead what is believed to be one of the largest humanitarian efforts of its time - providing food, shelter, and hope to the Armenian survivors.

The title “Forgotten Genocide” made me think. If Australian soldiers were there, helping, witnessing, and saving lives, then why is it forgotten? It should be part of Australia’s proud history. It shows that the ANZAC spirit is not only about bravery in battle, but also about humanity, compassion, and standing up for others.

Later this year, my classmates and I will visit Canberra and the Australian War Memorial. But we may not see this photo, or many others like it. Images that show the kindness of Australian soldiers and the support of organisations that helped survivors, including the establishment of one of the largest orphanages at the time by Australians in places like Beirut, Lebanon.

So today, as we remember the ANZACs, we also remember the lives they touched beyond the battlefield. We honour not only their courage, but also their compassion.
