'Heart Smart' Day

On Monday, 7th June AGBU Alexander Primary School will host a “Heart Smart” Day.

Thanks to the regular support of an anonymous donor, Alexander School will be presented with its first ever AED Defibrillator by Guy Leech, who is a former Australian Surf Lifesaving Champion, World Ironman Champion, World Surf Ski Champion and current CEO of 'Heart180'.

Statistics show that if a defibrillator is within 180 seconds of someone suffering a sudden cardiac arrest, their survival chances go from 6 per cent to 70 per cent. The unfortunate reality is that this can happen to anyone at any age, including children, even the fittest of people.

On Monday, students will be shown the importance of keeping a healthy heart, with exercise and healthy eating habits. It will be an honour to have our special guest Guy Leech to help spread this message in the school community.

Students will also be provided with a complimentary healthy Morning Tea (hummous and veggies), Sushi and Edamame beans for Lunch and Oat Cookies as after lunch treat.

While we hope that we will never have the need for a defibrillator, it is also extremely important to have a safe and resilient school, knowing that in an emergency we are well prepared. All members of staff are trained to use a defibrillator as part of our annual CPR and First Aid training.

New Carpets in Classrooms!

It gives me great pleasure to report that another 30th Anniversary project has now been completed, with the installation of new carpets in all the classrooms. At the start of term, the students and teachers were welcomed into their classroom with fresh carpets that not only brightened and visually enhanced their working environment, but also introduced the latest innovation in floor covering.

With the support of 'Carpet Care Services', we were able to install a great product called 'Kinetex Floorcoverings', becoming the first school in Australia to do so! Kinetex is an advanced textile composite flooring that combines key attributes of soft-surface floor covering with the long-wearing performance characteristics of hard-surface flooring. This was the exact characteristics of flooring product that we were looking and researching. Thanks to Ross Riek from Carpet Care, we were able to source this unique carpet from the United States, which has unprecedented range of performance attributes with reduced environmental footprint. It is in fact made with 45% post-consumer recycled content, with each carpet tile containing the equivalent of 27 used plastic water bottles!

I would like to take this opportunity and thank all the individual parents, members of the P&F and the School Board who supported, assisted and gave their precious time in the realisation of this $63,000 project. It may have taken a while to finalise this important and major project, but we know that it will benefit the school community for many years to come.

The second stage of the project will involve the replacement and installation of the new carpets in the administration building.
