From the Principal

Dear Parents,

Easter Celebrations!

Following the recent NSW Health advice, our annual Easter Celebrations has been confirmed and the school will now proceed with this special event, with a Covid-19 Safety Plan in place.

This means we will be able to welcome the current parents, together with siblings and a reserved number of guests to the school site. The student performance will be held in the Covered Outdoor Learning Area (COLA).

Following the implementation of the plan, all guests or visitors will be required to register for the day, to support contact tracing measures.

This means, we have just over two weeks left for the event, which will be held on Sunday, 21 March from lunchtime... a week before Palm Sunday.

The student program is well on track and we hope it will be a memorable one for all to experience. The P&F Committee will soon provide information about the arrangements for the day and how our families can assist.

As you know, the school was forced to cancel this event last year. However, we are thankful that we once gain have the opportunity to praise our Lord Jesus as a school community.

'Grown' and ready to 'Serve'

It gives me great pleasure to introduce our newest member of staff, Miss Sonya Boyadjian. A Graduate of Alexander school, Sonya is currently completing her Bachelor of Primary Education degree, to achieve her childhood dream of becoming a teacher. On her graduation, she had promised that when she 'grows', she will come back to 'serve' her school and follow in the footsteps of her teachers, who have been her inspiration. It is wonderful to see our former Captain and two-time 'Alexander Medal' recipient back and ready to 'serve' her school and community.

Miss Boyadjian will join us as a Teachers' Aide for a few days a week, while also gaining experience and guidance from the dedicated teachers at Alexander school. We wish her the best of success in her studies and in her new role at Alexander School. Welcome back!

Gymnastics Program

Our gymnastics program for the term has so far been excellent thanks to ‘Be Skilled Be Fit’. The students are making wonderful progress with the weekly sessions. The program is well structured and caters for outcomes set out in the curriculum. In the next session, the students will gain experience in Bars & Beam. The instructors have also made positive comments in terms of the goals set and targets achieved by students. We are all pleased with the results. The photos published in 'Gallery' section of the Newsletter give a better view of all the fun and action!

CANTEEN NEWS | Lunch Orders

Following discussion and feedback from the 'Parent Information Evening', the members of the P&F Committee and Canteen Coordinators have been evaluating the most effective way to collect payments for the Lunch Orders.

As a result of the consultation with the school executive and administration, it has been decided that from now on all Lunch Orders will be recorded, tallied and INVOICED to the families once a month. Families can then make payment arrangements via direct deposit, cheque or in person at the office. Read More...

Parents no longer need to follow up their Lunch Order with a paper bag and cash payment. Once orders are placed for their child/ren via the Google Form, the school will calculate all the orders for the month and issue an invoice to the family.

When invoices are paid, the office will issue a receipt to acknowledge payment. This will no doubt lead to an increase in the school's administration time, but we are certain that it will make the system more efficient and convenient for our parents and school community.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS FOR LUNCH ORDERS ONLY

Students will still be required to have money to purchase Morning Tea and Afternoon Treats over the counter. Please make sure your children are aware of what they want to buy and the money given to them, as credit will not be provided.

Parents can follow the Canteen Menu from the calendar on the website, Newsletter or through the link on the School Stream App.

At this stage, notifications for lunch orders will continue to be sent out via email and the School Stream App, however parents will also be able to access the Order Forms from the links in the Canteen Calendar for each lunch order. We hope this will also make the process more efficient and easy to locate.

We like to take this opportunity and thank all parents who have provided feedback and their support to make this change possible, for the benefit of our students and their families.

P&F News | Easter Celebrations - Sunday 21 March from Lunchtime

With only few weeks left for this traditional annual event, the P&F will once again follow the generally well established precedent. As a major school event all families will be asked to help on the day and a draft roster of tasks will soon be shared to help everyone prepare for their part.

Easter Raffle

In the past we’ve had a huge number of Easter chocolates for the raffle prizes. This year we’d like to prepare more varied hampers for the raffle prizes. We ask that families contribute items such as homemade biscuits/sweets, wine, coloured eggs and Easter themed decorations to assist with the preparation of more interesting and attractive prizes.

Cake Stall

For the Cake Stall on the day the P&F is also requesting for all families to contribute cakes or sweets and make the Easter Cake Stall the best ever! Home-made fare, in particular traditional Armenian choreg, are always best sellers. Some ideas for traditional sweets include – choreg, kata, mahmoul, kaghka, kounafa, khourabyeh, baklava… Another popular selling item is homemade cake – uncut and sold whole.

Further information and details regarding the Cake Stall and concert day preparations will be emailed to parents.

The Parents & Friends Committee can be contacted via email: PFC@alexander.nsw.edu.au

Congratulations!
